Ichneumon
Based on: Nexus

Theme: Insects
Requires: Nothing.

Ichneumon is a theme hack of Cheapass Games' Nexus.

Where the original game was an entirely abstract counter placement game, Ichneumon gives it a theme of insect larvae being implanted into dormant hosts. Players must decide whether to implant larvae directly into the largest and healthiest parts of the host organism's body, allowing the larvae to grow strong and fight off other parasites, or to leave those sections alive, so that the larvae will have a larger final meal before taking flight.

[edit] Theme changes

A Nexus is a Host Body, and its Nodes and Connectors become the Organs and Limbs. The counters being played onto the Organs are Larvae.

Implanting a Larva into an Organ will damage and atrophy it, but will give the Larva sustenance before it battles against the other Larvae implanted in the same host.

When the Host Body becomes "closed", the Larvae hatch. After dispatching rival Larvae in the same body, those that are strongest are able to feed on the unimplanted Organs of the Host Body, and pupate. That Body is then dead, and can no longer have Larvae implanted into it.
